Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this module, we will discuss recent developments in research on and with children. The seminar will also give some insights into different educational systems in several European countries. Issues will include the following:
• Children’s views on childhood and child-adult-relations
• Ways and methodologies to include the perspective of young children in research
• Strategies for engaging multilingual children in conversations
• The role of adults in children’s play
• Advantages and challenges of “Risky play”
Students will read and prepare English journal articles for discussion. Main focus will be exchange of ideas and joint discussion, not lecture. It is not necessary to speak or read English well – but you should be willing to talk and argue even if you are not sure about the right words for questions and arguments. We will learn from each other.
The module shall enable participants to deal with scientific articles in English language and encourage participants to seek contact to colleagues in other countries.

“I am a person who struggles with reading scientific texts. Most of the times I see them as a battle I have to take, but after realizing it's not so serious, things seem easier for me. I was told to 'play with the article', try to make sense of it in my own way, the way that is the most suitable for me. Now I can be more relaxed about reading articles, since I don't need to frustrate myself by reading every single sentence.” Antti from Finland, participated in the 2019 seminar.
